Community Leaders Attend Dinner

Last week, we hosted area church, business, and organizational leaders at a delicious spaghetti dinner. They learned how proceeds from the walk go to fight hunger and poverty in the Danville area and around the world.

After opening with a prayer, team leaders shared poverty facts and how funds raised at the Walk go to alleviate the problem. Our guest speaker was Karen Harris, Executive Director of God’s Storehouse. She spoke about the benefit that God’s Storehouse and its clients have received over the years of partnership with the Walk. She said there has been a spike in food box recipients, so these funds are important to ensure hungry people are fed.  She also spoke of new initiatives at God’s Storehouse that need to be funded. Marie-Louise Crane, a planning team member, shared how the CROP Walk benefited her family in the Netherlands during a time of starvation at the end of World War II. Attendees were treated to some awareness-raising skits staged by the youth of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.

It’s not too late to be a part of this important event – a time of fellowship with neighbors helping neighbors. You can get involved by emailing or by calling 434.793.6824.
